Celebrating 10 Years at RCT

When I graduated from Carleton University in 2013, I was looking for a job that would use the skills I gained through my Major in International History. After several months of job searching for a position, I started work as an overnight security guard while continuing to look for a position that was closer to my degree’s potential. I eventually got an interview with RCT for a Technical Work Experience Program position, and I started with RCT as the Production Assistant in May 2015. During my time with RCT I tried to expand my role as much as possible and help as many departments as I could: HR, Finance, Operations, Reception, Administration and Sales.

When my initial contract was coming to an end, I was told that there was a chance to move forward with the organization in a different role:  The #WelcomeRefugees project for Syrian refugees. I was given the chance to lead the project for the Ontario office and worked directly with a youth technician as my second. I learned from him the technical skills and the passion for refurbishment and renewing computers that I didn’t have in my previous role. Together, and with the help of donors and partners, we were able to provide over 3000 free laptops through this program, all tested and packaged by our small team of two.

At the end of that contract, I was offered the chance to open the office in Ottawa. This was a great opportunity personally as well as professionally because I was already planning to move there to be with my future wife.  Our team started the groundwork for opening the Ottawa Valley region to RCT and improving access for the North-Eastern areas.

Since taking on the role as Community Engagement Lead for Northern and Eastern Ontario, I’ve strived to maintain RCT’s commitment to excellence in service and outreach. Nearly 10 years into working with RCT, it has been a privilege to work with such great ambassadors of the Green Tech movement.

CONGRATULATIONS on your 10 years at RCT.
