My name is Emily Anton and I’m currently a Receptionist and Sales and Marketing Intern at Renewed Computer Technology (RCT) while transitioning into the workforce as a recent Humanities graduate from McMaster University. I came across this opportunity online and, after completing the interview process, I was excited to be selected for what has become an incredibly valuable internship.

I have the privilege of working with Adam French, the Community Engagement Lead for Northern and Eastern Ontario. His mentorship has been instrumental in helping me build confidence and grow professionally.

RCT is a social enterprise with a mission that truly resonates with me. The organization works to make technology accessible by refurbishing donated computers and providing them to individuals and communities who need them most. At the same time, they help young people gain meaningful work experience and support organizations in meeting their social responsibility goals. It’s been inspiring to be part of an initiative that creates real social, economic, and environmental impact.

In my role, I assist with outreach and marketing by researching target audiences, creating contact lists, and contributing to email campaigns. I also help with administrative tasks such as setting up meetings and taking meeting notes.

Since I’m based at the Mississauga head office, I also support the front desk by answering phone calls, assisting clients with order pick ups, tracking voicemails, and keeping the reception area organized and welcoming.

One of my proudest accomplishments so far has been helping to organize 24 outreach meetings with the support of other interns and regional engagement leads. It was a rewarding achievement that reminded me of the power of teamwork and community connection.

RCT has provided me with a supportive, professional, and inclusive environment where I feel valued and encouraged to grow. I’m especially thankful to my manager Marie for fostering such a positive workplace culture. This internship has already made a meaningful impact on my career journey, and I’m excited to continue learning and contributing here!
