My name is Erica Luo and I am the 2025 Sales and Marketing Intern at Renewed Computer Technology. I graduated from the University of Ottawa with a Bachelor of Social Sciences, Joint Honours in Communications and Political Science. My studies and extracurricular activities have made me proficient in research, and strategic communications which have aided in my position within RCT. My background spans CO-OP placements within the federal sector, working with various government departments and non-profits, as well as volunteering with international humanitarian organizations, which have fueled my passion for supporting marginalized communities.

This passion is further fueled by my work at RCT, which allows me to provide refurbished technology to low-income communities and other registered charities, along with the company’s recycling of e-waste products.

As a Sales and Marketing Assistant at RCT, I shadow Hafza Arshad, the Community Engagement Lead for Toronto and South-Central Ontario, who provides me with the mentorship I needed to excel within the team and work individually. I engage in several meetings with prospective clients, alongside meetings with other internal administrators which gives me more insight into the production processes, and facilitation of sales and donations to meet the organization’s target market segmentation objectives. I was able to improve my corporate communication skills with increased professionalism through meetings with clients. E-mail marketing also allows me to hone my copywriting skills. I was also given the opportunity to participate in the St. Lawrence ReMarket, which allowed me to witness the sustainability efforts of RCT come to fruition in person through direct community engagement. I built on my software skills through my use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word, which enabled me to send email blasts, track donor lists, and more.

Overall, my experience so far is a fruitful one, allowing me to gain valuable interpersonal skills, connections, and professional experience to build a strong foundation for my future endeavors. I’ve had an interest in working within the non-profit sector as I pursued my studies, so this opportunity allowed me to explore a passion of mine.
